SHOBEL LLC d/b/a SIFT ("SIFT," "we," "our," or "us") operates the SIFT mobile application and the website at siftscience.app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We share data only with the essential third-party services that power the app.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information: Your name and email address when you sign in with Apple.
• Feed preferences: The research topics, keywords, and interest descriptions you enter when creating feeds.
• Notes and bookmarks: Any annotations or saved articles you create within the app.
• Feedback: Messages you send us through the in-app feedback form.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: Session activity, feature usage, and interactions with the app.
• Device information: Device type, operating system version, and crash reports.
• Push notification token: Used to deliver notifications you have opted into.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalize the SIFT service, including curating article feeds based on your research interests.
• To send push notifications when enabled (e.g., must-read article alerts).
• To process subscription payments through Apple.
• To respond to support requests and feedback.
• To maintain app performance, diagnose bugs, and improve the service.
• To detect fraud and abuse.

We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data only with the following third parties, solely as necessary to operate the service:

• Google Firebase: Database, authentication, and push notification infrastructure. Firebase Privacy
• OpenAI: AI analysis of article abstracts and full text. Article content and your research interest descriptions may be sent to OpenAI to generate analysis. OpenAI Privacy

We do not share your data with any advertising networks or data brokers.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@siftscience.app. Upon verified request, we will permanently delete your account data within 30 days.

6. Security

We use industry-standard encryption and security practices to protect your data in transit and at rest. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Push Notifications

If you grant permission for push notifications, we may send you alerts about new must-read papers in your feeds. You can disable notifications at any time in your iOS Settings or within the app under Account → Notifications.

8. Children's Privacy

SIFT is intended for use by researchers and adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

• Access to the personal data we hold about you.
• Correction of inaccurate data.
• Deletion of your data.
• Objection to or restriction of certain processing.
• Data portability.

California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@siftscience.app.

10. International Users

SIFT is operated from the United States. If you access the service from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
