These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SIFT mobile application and website at siftscience.app, operated by SHOBEL LLC d/b/a SIFT ("SIFT," "we," "our," or "us"). By using SIFT, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use SIFT. By using the service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

2. Your Account

You may create an account using Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@siftscience.app.

3. The Service

SIFT is a research literature discovery tool that uses AI to curate, analyze, and prioritize scientific papers based on your stated research interests. The service includes personalized article feeds, AI-generated analysis, spotlight recommendations, and an explore feature for cross-disciplinary discovery.

4. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

SIFT uses AI to analyze and summarize scientific papers. This content is generated automatically and may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. AI-generated summaries and analyses are provided for informational convenience only and do not constitute scientific, medical, or professional advice. Always refer to the original published paper before citing or acting on any finding. SIFT does not verify the accuracy of third-party publications.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the service or its infrastructure.
• Upload or transmit malicious code or interfere with the service's operation.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app.
• Scrape, harvest, or systematically collect data from the service.
• Reproduce, redistribute, or resell any content from the service without our written permission.
• Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

6. Intellectual Property

SIFT and all content, features, and functionality of the service — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, and software — are owned by SHOBEL LLC and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, personal license to use the app for your own research purposes. No other rights are granted.

7. Subscriptions and Billing

SIFT offers monthly and annual subscription plans processed through Apple's App Store. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds except as required by applicable law or Apple's refund policies.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY PARTICULAR PAPER OR ANALYSIS WILL BE AVAILABLE OR ACCURATE. YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, SHOBEL LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless SHOBEL LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the service or your violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the service at any time, for any reason, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately.

12. Dispute Resolution

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the service shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the rules of JAMS, conducted in Washington State. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Washington State, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

14. Apple App Store Notice

These Terms are between you and SHOBEL LLC only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the service or its content. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and Apple's App Store terms, Apple's terms shall govern with respect to usage rules. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the service.

15. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
